Barnsdale Wood has some ancient woodland at Rutland Water near Barnsdale Country Club on the A606.
This painting of Barnsdale Wood, in Oils on canvas, is of a young plantation of scotts pine, silver birch and a mixture of hardwoods close to the waters edge on the north shore. Up until the early 1970's this part of Barnsdale Wood was part of Exton Estates.
Barnsdale Wood has some marvellous Oak trees that stand behind this view of Rutland Water.
In the 1950's, 60's and 70's many of the best english oaks were felled, but there are still some good examples of ancient woodland left.
